It took nearly a year of playing it until the song took its current form, with the band experimenting various ways of playing it for its first year in the open. There was also a "slow" version played a few times in 1995 but has been shelved since. The most famous performance was perhaps on November 25, 1995 [+], referred to as "The Poor Heartfest", in which the band played the original Poor Heart to open the show, the slow version of it to close the second set, and then a tease/reprise of both versions before the encore. |

- Lyrics
Chorus:
You won't steal my poor heart again
You won't steal my poor heart again
(over which Fish sings: "Ooooh, never again!")
You won't steal my tape recorder
I'll call the Lord and he'll put you in the pen
You won't steal that thing again
(over which Fish usually yells: "YER GOIN TO JAIL!")
Verse:
I didn't even know your name or what was your game
But stealin' things has sure brought you to fame
I wanna know if you stole mine
It was one of a kind and I'm sayin' if you're to blame
Your life will never be the same
I can't track you anymore
Detective work has sure become a bore
So tell me what you did with it
And stop this shit, give up yourself
Before they come knockin' at your door
Chorus:
You won't steal my poor heart again
You won't steal my poor heart again
When I feel the blade of that Cupid sword
I'll call the Lord and he'll put you in the pen
You won't steal that thing again
You won't steal my poor heart again
